Breeders often refer to closed catteries as catteries that do not offer, or hire, stud services. We own our own males and they are our pets. We get approached for stud services but it is not something we offer or require.
To the lay person the term closed cattery often refers to a cattery that does not allow outsiders in. While not strictly the case we do not have an open door policy. We also do not allow outside animals into the cattery under any circumstances.
There simply are far to many communicable diseases and parasites, from STD’s to ringworm, to risk exposure except under controlled circumstances. Remember that a cattery is essentially producing and caring for someone else’s future companion. We take that responsibility very seriously.
